Irish Saints' Names - January

Below is the January listing of Irish saints' names as suggestions for naming children, which began a series of monthly updates in the Australian press in 1914. All of the suggested saints have feasts in January and the selection includes a larger than usual number of female saints. Some of the holy men such as Aedan of Ferns are relatively well-known, others are rather more obscure. The holy women include the famous Saint Ita and a Tipperary saint whose popularity has rocketed in recent years, Ciara of Kilkeary:

Irish Saints' Names.

There are many who think that the Irish saints are only a few, and so their choice of names for their children is very small. Week by week, a list will be given. The name will be spelt as in Irish and the English equivalent will he given in brackets. The sex is marked m. for males, and f. for females. Only one name is given for each day, not but more could be given. Year of death as below.
